The inaugural WWE Bash in Berlin Premium Live Event is now in the books. The historic event was headlined by Gunther vs. Randy Orton II. The World Heavyweight Championship was on the line this time, and the finish brought some confusion to the fans.
The Ring General retained the World Heavyweight Championship over The Apex Predator in the main event of WWE Bash in Berlin from a packed Uber Arena in the German capital. Orton made a very telling statement on the main event head of the match. Towards the end, Gunther used a Sleeper Hold to wear Orton down after back-and-forth action that went in and out of the ring.
The Viper kept fighting back, but the champion delivered elbow strikes and re-applied the Sleeper. Orton eventually passed out in the hold to end the match at just over 34 minutes. The finish led to significant confusion on social media as many fans were under the impression that the challenger tapped out, but that was not the case.
Bash in Berlin marked the first televised title defense for Gunther, who just dethroned Damian Priest at WWE SummerSlam on August 3. This match was made after Orton confronted Gunther following The Biggest Party of The Summer. The 14-time World Champion recalled the controversial finish to their match in the King of the Ring Tournament finals this past May.
