The encounter between Randy Orton and Brock Lesnar at SummerSlam did not end too well for ‘The Viper’ as he suffered a concussion and was left in a pool of his own blood courtesy of a vicious assault by his opponent.
After the match, when Brock Lesnar returned to the locker room area, Chris Jericho confronted the ‘Beast Incarnate’ for his actions in the ring. News had spread that the two of them were involved in a backstage fight.
However, Orton revealed in an interview with Sports Illustrated’s Extra Mustard that what actually transpired backstage was anything but a fight.

‘The Apex Predator’ claimed that Jericho was only concerned about his health and safety and spoke to Lesnar to ensure the same. Randy opined that Y2J was aware that his family was watching the match from the front row, which is why he wanted to make sure everything was fine.

“Basically, what happened is Jericho saw what was going on in the ring and wanted answers as to whether my best interests were in mind as far as my health and safety were concerned.
I had my family there, sitting front row, and Chris knew that, as well. He was just coming up to check on his boy, that’s what it boiled down to, and I think that’s awesome,” he stated.
Orton further quashed the rumours of a Lesnar-Jericho fight by making it known that Chris was actually ensuring that things were fine and not picking a fight with Brock. According to him, the matter was just blown out of proportion by some of the people present there who leaked out the incident.
The 12-time World Champion Orton was quoted as saying:
“You hear all these things about how they were going to fight, but I don’t think Jericho wanted to fight Brock, I’m just going to throw that out there. I think he was coming up to just make sure everything was cool.
It’s unfortunate that in that small space, with the dozen bodies in there, somehow that leaked and everybody knew about it. That’s very unfortunate. It was blown way out of proportion, and Jericho just wanted to check on one of his fellow boys in the locker room.”
Randy Orton also had words of praise for Brock Lesnar and spoke about how much respect he has for ‘The Conqueror’ due to his achievements in the WWE as well as in MMA. He concluded by saying:
“I have a lot of respect for Brock. I was down in OVW with him, and I was there a few months before he came.
We all knew he was coming, but when he came, he was humble and a fun guy to be around. He’s still the same way. He’s been through a lot, and he’s really became a name in this business and in MMA.”
