Drew McIntyre recently returned to action on WWE RAW, much to fans' delight. However, his comeback segment had a noticeable botch. Hall of Famer Teddy Long thinks the error would have infuriated Vince McMahon if he was still in charge.
With Sami Zayn and Seth Rollins' match ending, fans were expecting the show to conclude when Drew McIntyre appeared in disguise. He immediately took out Zayn with a Claymore while not revealing his identity. However, Joe Tessitore prematurely mentioned that the mystery assailant was McIntyre.
Many viewers felt that Tessitore's call seemed to diminish the effect of the reveal when The Scottish Warrior showed his face. On Sportskeeda's The Wrestling Time Machine, hosted by Mac Davis, WWE Hall of Famer Teddy Long had the following to say about the botched segment:
"I'll tell you one thing and Bill [Apter] can attest to this. If Vince had been in that Gorilla Position and he [Joe Tessitore] said that before he got that mask off, brother (...) You gotta take your time you know. That's the whole thing. You know the reveal. So if you are gonna tell it, why reveal it?" [5:16 onwards]
Bill Apter thinks the WWE star's return wasn't planned much in advance
According to Bill Apter, Drew McIntyre's comeback to the active scene was expedited due to Bronson Reed's injury.
On the same episode of Sportskeeda's The Wrestling Time Machine, the Hall of Fame journalist said The Scottish Warrior's return was intended to create a buzz after Survivor Series, where Reed had suffered an injury.
"Well, I think Drew was brought back earlier than anticipated. I think he was gonna come back during the Royal Rumble. But with the injury that happened to Bronson Reed coming off that cage at the Survivor Series, I think they needed to slip somebody in there who is going to give a buzz to the company again, and he was definitely the right man." For now, fans will have to stay tuned to see what is next for McIntyre. He is widely expected to feud with The OG Bloodline's Sami Zayn and Jey Uso on WWE RAW.
