WWE Hall of Famer Rey Mysterio was finally defeated by his son Dominik Mysterio in a tag team match a few weeks ago on the company's flagship show, Monday Night RAW. It appears the luchador legend is satisfied with his career and hopes to follow his peer John Cena's path towards the sunset.
Mysterio had joined WWE in 2002, making his pay-per-view debut against Kurt Angle at SummerSlam that year in a match many cite as the best opener in the history of the event. He grew to become one of the most beloved superstars of all time, having never portrayed a heel character in the Stamford-based promotion.
During his appearance this past weekend on Fanatics Fest NYC, Rey Mysterio let fans in on his plans for a farewell tour. The Latino World Order leader is turning 50 this December. He had mentioned last year upon WWE Hall of Fame induction that this is the age he plans to leave his boots in the ring:
"I think what's left is to be able to plan a nice sunset and be able to thank everyone that has followed and supported me throughout the years, and give them, when the time is right, a good farewell. Not something that'll happen one time and then I come back and do it again. Maybe a farewell tour. Something that can mean something to me and everyone that will be there. Whether it's every city, a country, 'this is the last time we'll be together,'" Rey Mysterio said. [H/T: Fightful.com]
While the masked man is still going strong, it is not out of the realm of possibility he will end his career within the next year.
Dominik Mysterio and Logan Paul ridicule WWE Hall of Famer Rey Mysterio
Logan Paul invited 'Dirty' Dom to his podcast Impaulsive recently, during which they discussed a bevy of topics. When it came to the latter's father, both of them had some scathing remarks.
Paul believes the elder Mysterio should retire owing to his old age. The former NXT North American Champion agreed while bringing up another WWE Hall of Famer, Ric Flair, who kept on wrestling despite the latter's age. Flair's last match took place in July 2022, at which point he was 73:
"Ric Flair did it till he was like 84. He had a stroke. He had two strokes in his last match. Like, he was taking a nap on the apron," said Dom.
Dominik Mysterio also responded positively to Logan Paul's wish for them to form a tag team in WWE, as Paul believes they can be a dominant duo.
