WWE recognizes Ric Flair as a 16-time World Champion. The historic record has been a hot topic of discussion for many years, and a recent development has brought the matter back to the forefront of the pro wrestling world. Now Flair himself has just made surprising remarks on two top WWE Superstars when asked about the record.
The Nature Boy has claimed to be a 21-time World Champion, but various sources list him as having anywhere between 16 and 25 reigns. WWE officially recognizes Flair as a 16-time World Champion, which is made up of two WWE Championship reigns, plus six World Heavyweight reigns in WCW and eight in the NWA.
John Cena has been tied with Flair since January 2017. He's held the WWE Championship 13 times and the World Heavyweight Championship on three occasions. Now that The Face that Runs the Place has announced his retirement for 2025, fans are speculating on Cena finally breaking Flair's record.
The Dirtiest Player in the Game wants Charlotte Flair to break his record. Speaking to Busted Open Radio, Flair was asked if he has a problem with Cena potentially breaking the record. The 52-year veteran said he wants his daughter to be the one, but he has no issue if WWE goes with Cena.
New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE
"The honest to god truth, I think so much personally of John Cena. He’s one of those really great guys, in my opinion, and I’ve known a few. In a perfect world, it would be my daughter, which I think would be the biggest thing that could ever happen. I told her one time, 'You’d be as famous as Serena Williams if you broke that record. It’s been there for so long.' She didn’t like the comparison, but she’s as good an athlete as there is alive today. But if they do it with John, I’d have no problem. I’d be the first one to hit the ring and shake his hand," Ric Flair said. [H/T to WrestleZone]
Charlotte has been out of action since December 8 with a torn ACL, MCL, and meniscus. She was expected to be out of action for around nine months. Cena is set to perform on The Grandest Stage of Them All for the last time at WrestleMania 41. He will continue his retirement campaign throughout next year.
Ric Flair has major praise for The Rock's WWE career
The Rock and Ric Flair are widely regarded as two of the most entertaining and successful pro wrestlers in the history of the sport. They have shared the ring just twice in their legendary careers.
The Final Boss returned to the WWE storylines earlier this year for an action-packed WrestleMania XL season. After the third-generation star took shots at The Rhodes Family and others during a Rock Concert on SmackDown in March, The Nature Boy sent major praise his way via X.
"My Friend @TheRock, You Are The Most Entertaining Motherf*cker In The Entire History Of The Wrestling Business And I’ve Seen Them All, Including Myself, But I Pale In Comparison! I’m So Thankful For Our Friendship & Respect. God Bless You! You Are The F*cking Man! WOOOOO!" Ric Flair wrote.
The only Flair vs. Rock match took place on July 29, 2002, at the legendary Greensboro Coliseum. The Rock defeated Flair in the seven-minute RAW main event that night. The Great One and The Nature Boy then locked up in 2004 at WrestleMania 20 as Evolution battled The Rock 'n' Sock Connection. The 17-minute Handicap Match saw Flair, Batista, and Randy Orton defeat Rock and Mick Foley.
