Sami Zayn thinks 30-year-old WWE star is "fighting for his life" every time he is in the ring

Sami Zayn has been doing a good job as the Intercontinental Champion on WWE RAW. The Underdog from the Underground recently spoke about a special quality one of his competitors has.

Bron Breakker is currently trying to end Sami Zayn’s Intercontinental Championship streak and win the title for himself. Meanwhile, WWE has also added Ilja Dragunov to the mix.

The Mad Dragon picked up a disqualification win over Zayn a couple of weeks ago. Last week on RAW, he faced Bron Breakker but couldn’t compete any longer and the referee awarded the match to Breakker.

In a recent interview with Wrestling Inc., Zayn talked about how good Ilja Dragunov is in the ring. He noted that The Mad Dragon possessed a unique ability to fight like he was fighting for his life while also coming across as the underdog.

"I think [Dragunov] is really good," Zayn said. "He has something that not a lot of people have, which is an innate understanding of the struggle that makes wrestling a beautiful thing. When he's in there, it looks like he's fighting for his life. There's a lot of great guys, a lot of great performers in WWE, but very few have that quality where you just really believe that this guy is deep in the trenches and it's taking everything in him just to keep his head above water. I think that's a great quality to have in a wrestler, and he's got it. I don't see it very often, and he's definitely got it." [H/T Wrestling Inc.]

Sami Zayn has been seen as an underdog for most of his career. That allows him to see the unique quality in Dragunov, who is a former NXT UK Champion. Both men have defeated Gunther to win titles in the past.

Sami Zayn will likely drop the title at WWE SummerSlam

Money in the Bank 2024 saw Sami Zayn defend his Intercontinental Title against Bron Breakker. WWE surprised many by allowing Zayn to pin Breakker and retain the title.

The former NXT Champion has been unleashed following the loss and has taken down Sami and Ilja several times with spears to prove a point. He will get his rematch against The Underdog from the Underground at SummerSlam.

Fans could see Bron Breakker win his first main roster title at the event. WWE will likely avoid handing Breakker a second clean loss against Zayn as it will severely dent his credibility. Instead, Sami Zayn could drop the title and take a short break from the ring before returning with a renewed mission.
