CM Punk and Drew McIntyre are finally set to face each other in a grudge match at WWE SummerSlam 2024. However, wrestling analyst Sam Roberts feels Seth Rollins could steal the headlines with a heel turn at The Biggest Party of the Summer.
The July 22, 2024 edition of Monday Night RAW saw The Visionary being added to the Punk vs. McIntyre match as a special guest referee. On this week's episode of the red brand, Rollins made it known that he'll have complete control over the bout and both of his rivals will have to listen to whatever he says.
There has been much speculation on who Seth Rollins will favor in the blockbuster contest. Speaking on the Notsam Wrestling Podcast, Roberts said that Rollins will likely help Drew McIntyre get the win at WWE SummerSlam due to the two stars just having a "wrestling hatred," not a "real hatred."
"Seth [Rollins] is gonna give the match to Drew [McIntyre]. The Drew-Seth hatred is a wrestling hatred. The Seth-Punk hatred is a real hatred. The problem that Seth Rollins has with Drew McIntyre is that he scr*wed up Seth's title match by cashing in the briefcase. And also, he is trying to take the CM Punk match away from Seth Rollins," said Sam Roberts. [42:30 - 43:07]
Sam Roberts further added that Rollins' issues with CM Punk appear to be "more personal" and The Visionary might turn heel at the upcoming premium live event to take things to the next level.
"The problem that Seth has with Punk appears to be much more personal in the sense that comments were made before CM Punk was even in the WWE and his reaction to Punk returning was so big that it left people scratching their heads and wondering the difference between storyline and reality. So I do think Seth is gonna give it to Drew. I wonder if that will turn Seth heel. It very well might," Roberts added. [43:08 - 43:41]
Hall of Famer feels there is a problem with Seth Rollins' role at WWE SummerSlam
While speaking on Sportskeeda Wrestling's UnSKripted, Bill Apter shared his thoughts on Seth Rollins being made a part of CM Punk and Drew McIntyre's match at WWE SummerSlam.
Apter felt that the encounter could become too predictable with Rollins' presence as some kind of shenanigans is bound to take place. The Hall of Famer also put forward the idea of The Visionary turning on Punk, leading to a feud between the two.
"Is the addition of Seth Rollins too damn predictable? That there is gonna be something, there's gonna be a rough bump, somebody is gonna turn against somebody. Seth Rollins is going to probably have Punk lose, so he can pick up his feud and hatred of CM Punk, and they can go there, and Drew can move on to the winner of the Priest and Gunther match, maybe," the veteran said. It will be interesting to see how things unfold this Saturday, and whether Seth Rollins costs either CM Punk or Drew McIntyre at The Biggest Party of the Summer.
