WWE has officially landed another top talent. Despite an apparent bidding war with AEW, a champion pro wrestler has decided to sign with the sports entertainment juggernaut. Shawn Michaels has just issued a statement on the latest acquisition.
Stephanie Vaquer left CMLL and NJPW earlier today, due to personal reasons. She was stripped of her titles amid rumors on the 31-year-old choosing WWE over AEW after receiving contract offers from both. The interest from the Stamford-based promotion apparently began after Vaquer's loss to Mercedes Moné at Forbidden Door in late June.
La Primera is now officially signed to World Wrestling Entertainment. After sources revealed the latest backstage update on her status, Shawn Michaels took to X to confirm the signing. The Senior Vice President of Talent Development Creative welcomed Vaquer to the family, and indicated she will be reporting to the Performance Center soon. Chief Content Officer Triple H re-tweeted Michaels' message.
"Welcome to the WWE Family, @Steph_Vaquer. See you in Orlando!" Shawn Michaels wrote with the photo below.
Vaquer was a dual champion for CMLL until today's announcement. She held the World Women's Championship, and was one-half of the inaugural World Women's Tag Team Champions with Zeuxis. Many fans of both companies blamed Tony Khan for missing out on the signing, while giving credit to Triple H.
Shawn Michaels congratulated for WWE NXT Heatwave
World Wrestling Entertainment presented the third annual NXT Heatwave event this past Sunday at the Scotiabank Arena in Toronto. The same venue hosted the successful Money in the Bank Premium Live Event the night before.
Triple H took to X to praise the NXT brand for the success of Heatwave. The Game congratulated his longtime friend and tag team partner, and the NXT crew, on a massively successful show.
"#NXTHeatwave capped off a tremendous weekend of events at @ScotiabankArena with an incredible show full of star-making performances. Congratulations to @ShawnMichaels and the entire @WWENXT crew on a massively successful night," Triple H wrote with the photo below.
Heatwave featured 5 title matches, but just one new champion was crowned. The main event saw Ethan Page capture the NXT Championship by winning a Fatal Four-Way over Shawn Spears, Je'Von Evans, and former champion Trick Williams.
