IYO SKY inched one step closer to the Women's Intercontinental Championship on WWE RAW as she defeated Natalya and Alba Fyre in a triple-threat match. However, the decision to put the Japanese star over was questioned by pro wrestling veteran Vince Russo, who believes that the Nattie could have benefitted more from the win.

SKY was originally not a part of the tournament to crown the inaugural Women's Intercontinental Champion. However, Kairi Sane was taken out by the Pure Fusion Collective last week, which led to Adam Pearce naming IYO as her replacement. The former WWE Women's Champion did not let her stablemate down as she picked up the win to advance to the semifinals.

Speaking on Sportskeeda Wrestling's Legion of RAW, Vince Russo stated that he does not understand the push IYO has been getting. The former WWE writer added that Natalya winning would have been more compelling.

"Somebody there is in love with IYO SKY. They have given IYO SKY so much. When you look at this match, it tells you literally Natalya is yesterday’s news because you’ve given IYO SKY so much, why wouldn’t you have made this about maybe Natalya’s last shot and make people believe Natalya was going to win? Why wouldn’t you go there? Nope, we’re gonna put SKY over again like we have put her over a billion times," Russo said. [From 16:36 onwards]

The Genius of the Sky will face Lyra Valkyria in the semifinals of the tournament. On the other side of the bracket, Zoey Stark will clash with Dakota Kai to determine the second finalist.
