Former WWE Universal Champion Kevin Owens has teased turning heel against Cody Rhodes ahead of Bash In Berlin. The American Nightmare is scheduled to defend his title against Owens at the upcoming premium live event.
After successfully defending the Undisputed WWE Championship against Solo Sikoa in a Bloodline Rules match at SummerSlam, Rhodes asked Kevin Owens to compete for the title. At first, the Canadian wrestler was hesitant to lock horns with his on-screen friend. However, after continuous persuasion, Owens agreed, and Nick Aldis announced the contest for Bash in Berlin.
During the entire build to the highly anticipated match, the two babyfaces have shown immense respect for each other. However, on the August 30 edition of Friday Night SmackDown, Kevin Owens teased a heel turn.
The SmackDown General Manager welcomed both superstars to the ring to have a faceoff. During the segment, Cody Rhodes claimed he would win the match and asked Owens if they would still be friends after the premium live event. In response, the former United States Champion threw the mic on the floor, said something in Cody Rhodes' ear and left the squared circle.
Owens has had a history of turning on his on-screen friends. With his first opportunity to win a world title since dropping the Universal Championship to Goldberg at WWE Fastlane 2017, history might repeat itself at Bash in Berlin.
