The Motor City Machine Guns debuted two weeks ago on SmackDown. The team of Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin won a three-way tag team match in their debut before defeating DIY on last week's SmackDown.

Shortly afterward, they were interrupted by The Bloodline before the tag team championship match was made official. During the match's closing moments, Jey Uso caused an interference, leading to Shelley and Sabin's victory.

Having debuted after WrestleMania XL, Tama won his first championship on SmackDown before SummerSlam when he and Jacob Fatu defeated DIY. Fatu was later replaced by Tonga Loa, as per orders from Solo Sikoa.

Meanwhile, Tama and Tonga Loa successfully defended the titles on multiple occasions, including a Triple-Threat Ladder Match against DIY and The Street Profits. Tama and the rest of The Bloodline will continue their feud with the OG Bloodline.
