Teddy Long appeared on WWE television in various on-screen roles between 1998 and 2014. The former authority figure recently gave his thoughts on Jey Uso defeating Bron Breakker for the Intercontinental Championship.

The title change took place in the main event on the September 23 episode of RAW. Jey Uso previously won tag titles nine times with Jimmy Uso and once with Cody Rhodes. However, he had never held a singles title before dethroning Breakker.

On Sportskeeda's The Wrestling Time Machine, Long told host Mac Davis that Breakker's credibility will remain intact despite the defeat:

"I could see that they were certainly having a good match. I don't think it hurt Bron Breakker at all. I don't think it did anything with him. I think he did business. He went out, he sold, their timing was good. It was outstanding, man." [7:01 – 7:19]

Jey Uso has worked for WWE since 2010. Long believes Triple H replacing Vince McMahon as the main roster's creative figurehead might have played a part in Uso's Intercontinental Championship triumph:

"Well, you have to wait. Timing is everything. Maybe back then [during Vince McMahon's creative tenure] it might have been his time but somebody didn't want to see him win it, but now you got somebody there that wants to see him win it." [8:55 – 9:08]

Teddy Long on why the WWE title change happened

On April 19-20, 2025, WWE will hold WrestleMania 41 at Allegiant Stadium in the Las Vegas area.

Teddy Long thinks the location of RAW this week might have contributed to WWE's higher-ups booking a title change:

"They were in California [for RAW], they're in Samoan territory, and you know WrestleMania's coming next year to Vegas. That's not too far. So what they did on RAW, they gave those people the opportunity to see the title change, and they love Jey Uso. Now you tell me those people right there won't drive all the way to Las Vegas to see WrestleMania." [9:10 – 9:33]

After his 51-day title reign ended, Bron Breakker addressed whether he and Jey Uso could battle it out again in a rematch.
