Wrestling interviewer Chris Van Vliet shared his honest opinion on The New Day's recent heel turn in WWE. Earlier this month on Monday Night RAW, fans witnessed Xavier Woods and Kofi Kingston betraying their longtime partner, Big E.
The December 2, 2024, installment of the red brand featured The New Day's 10-year anniversary. Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods were on the verge of a breakup due to growing tension between them over the past few weeks.
However, Big E made his long-awaited return to television after over two years and announced that he would serve as the group's manager until he was medically cleared. In a shocking turn of events, Woods and Kingston turned heel and kicked the former WWE World Champion out of The New Day.
On his INSIGHT podcast, Chris Van Vliet responded to a fan's question, stating that The New Day's heel turn was not a mistake and highlighting the exceptional quality of their current work. He emphasized the potential for a powerful storyline involving a potential return by Big E, which would add a new layer of intrigue to the group's dynamic.
"[Do you think it was a mistake turning New Day heels?] No, not at all. They [Kofi Kingston & Xavier Woods] are already doing some of the best work of their careers, I think, and we're just scratching the surface of what's possible here. It also is setting up for a possible return – who knows? – if they're even able to do this, but can you imagine if Big E does get cleared to wrestle? The story that could be told here with Kofi and Xavier, man, so good," Vliet said. [From 20:41 to 21:12]

WWE veteran gives a new name to The New Day following RAW
Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods have been trying to explain their actions of turning heel on Big E. However, the duo has been met with a hostile reception from the crowd, which was again evident on the December 23, 2024, edition of WWE RAW.
Speaking on Busted Open After Dark, WWE legend Tommy Dreamer gave The New Day a new name - The Boo Day in reference to their perceived negative reception from the home crowd.
"Coming up next, it's The Boo Day. That's right, The Boo Day getting booed out of your own hometown and in your hometown arena in front of your mom," he said.
The former WWE Champion recently stated that he is still not medically cleared to return to in-ring competition. Meanwhile, he would be hosting the brand new RAW Classics show on the Netflix streaming service.
It remains to be seen if Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods will achieve significant success with their current heel persona.
