The Rock's appearance at NXT: New Year's Evil was highly anticipated, and it was almost guaranteed that he would be in a segment with his daughter, NXT General Manager Ava. He confronted an ex-AEW star after the latter argued with his daughter.
Backstage on NXT: New Year's Evil, Ava had a back-and-forth with former NXT Champion and ex-AEW star "All Ego" Ethan Page. He was upset at not being on the New Year's Evil card, and she reminded him of the damage he had done to the up-and-coming youngster Je'Von Evans, who she claimed was unable to speak because Page had broken his jaw.
When Ava said, "Oh, perfect timing!" Ethan Page didn't realize that The Final Boss—The Rock—stood behind him. The Rock was pretty welcoming of Page but put him in his place. He told the former AEW star that he heard what he did to Je'Von Evans, and despite that, Ethan could still come to him if he needed anything.
The Rock also issued a warning saying that he might be the "Final, Final Boss," but in the realm of NXT, Ava is the final boss, and for him and Page to be cool, he needed to be cool with her.
Interestingly enough, he also told Page that he's looking forward to seeing him on the main roster someday. After Ethan Page left, Ava echoed that sentiment, saying she couldn't wait for him to join the main roster so he'd be off her hands.
The Final Boss then asked his daughter what he should go out to say as he had no idea what to tell the crowd.
Ava reminded her father of who he was and what he had accomplished.
