The Rock continues to cement his legacy in various areas of sports and entertainment. The Great One of WWE remains a top Hollywood heavyweight, with other ventures such as his Seven Bucks Productions, co-ownership of the United Football League, and his Teremana Tequila brand, among others. Rock recently secured another rare accolade and has now publicly reacted to the same.
The Final Boss had a big November. Riding high on buzz from his surprise WWE Bad Blood appearance, The Rock began November by starring in Amazon MGM's Red One. The action-adventure Christmas fantasy comedy opened at number one with $32.1 million. Rock also starred in Disney's Moana 2 to close last month.
Moana 2 set the all-time five-day opening record and the all-time Thanksgiving week record of more than $221 million at the box office. This surpasses Frozen 2's previous record of $125 million in 2019.
The Rock's major November success in Hollywood was covered by Deadline. The outlet touted more than $680 million being grossed in the ten-day box office period from Friday, November 22, and mainly credited the "massive want-to-see" of Moana 2. The Thanksgiving weekend stretch drew an unprecedented estimate of $420 million for all movies, which breaks the previous Thanksgiving record of $315.6 million for all movies set in 2018, and led by Ralph Breaks The Internet.
The People's Champion took to Instagram with a reaction to the Deadline piece, which touted the two number-one openings in one month as "a rare Hollywood feat," and billed The Rock as a "box office anomaly." The outlet also claimed that no other star has reached this achievement. In response, the 52-year-old mega-star sent a big thank-you to moviegoers around the world and gave a random shout-out to Dolly Parton.
"Crazy town. MASSIVE MAHALO to audiences across America and around the world for this. And a warm & loving aloha to my favorite auntie @dollyparton cos she’s the boss [face blowing a kiss emoji] [Santa Claus emoji] [hook emoji] [tumbler glass emoji] #moana2 #redone," Rock wrote with the image below.
Rock's recent success is undeniable, but it should be noted that several fans pointed to Catherine O'Hara's Beetlejuice Beetlejuice and The Wild Robot opened at #1 just this past September. Furthermore, Vin Diesel had two number-one movies in May 2023 when he starred in Fast X and Guardians of The Galaxy 3, among others.
The Rock explains Dolly Parton shout-out
The Rock had his millions and millions of fans wondering about a shout-out to Dolly Parton this weekend. In reacting to the Deadline article on Rock's November Hollywood success, the former WWE Champion sent warm wishes to the singer-songwriter and billed her as the boss.
The Great One's shout-out to the 78-year-old American entertainment legend puzzled many, including one fan who took to Instagram in search of an explanation. The fan wondered what Rock and Dolly had to do with each other. The Rock himself replied and explained the name-drop with just nine words and an emoji.
"@bs_customfigs haha nothing at all, I just love that woman [laughing emoji]," Rock wrote.
Rock is currently working on multiple projects and is rumored to return to WWE again in time for the WrestleMania 41 season. He refused to endorse anyone in the 2024 U.S. Presidential Election, won by Celebrity WWE Hall of Famer Donald Trump.
