The Undertaker reflected on some of his legendary rivalries in WWE recently. He could not help but bring up a sentiment many fans have voiced over the years.
One of The Deadman's most underrated dance partners in the ring was Kurt Angle. The two waged war many times, notably in the Attitude Era. During this time, Angle was a newbie in the wrestling business, but the Olympic Gold Medalist quickly picked things up. A few years later, at No Way Out 2006, he defended the World Heavyweight Championship against The Undertaker. This match is a favorite among longtime fans.
Speaking on Six Feet Under with Mark Calaway, Undertaker praised Kurt Angle for being an absolute "machine" who always pushed him to the limit. He also expressed sadness to a degree because the "storytelling" was on point in many of their encounters, but these bouts are often forgotten:
"I loved working with Kurt [Angle]. Man, he was just a machine. We have some matches in the can that I don't think get talked about nearly enough. For storytelling, more so than anything. There was a huge size discrepancy between me and Kurt, and just him, wittling and wittling, trying to get me off my feet, and then when he finally did, just turning into a wolverine," Taker said. In a recent interview, the Olympic Gold Medalist spoke about being devalued during his second run in WWE.
The Undertaker did not expect Triple H to succeed in WWE
Paul "Triple H" Levesque is now the Chief Content Officer in WWE. He has a three-decade-long career behind him as an in-ring competitor. One of his biggest rivals was The Undertaker.
On his podcast, The Phenom spoke about The Game's failed gimmicks before the latter found success. He admitted that it was "unusual" for an athlete to recover from something like the "Blueblood Connecticut" gimmick, and he did not have high hopes for the 14-time World Champion:
"I'll tell you who I would have never have thought would get to the heights from where he started would be Triple H. The fancy Blueblood Connecticut, roody-poo, to take it to become The Game and all of that, that's a really unusual kinda deal for him to stay Triple H the whole time and take it from this thing to riding in on WrestleMania on a big skulled-out chopper was a testament to him."
On the latest episode of his podcast, The Undertaker also spoke highly about Gunther, revealing that he wishes to wrestle him. He also talked about his meeting with The Ring General last month.
