The Undertaker has stayed true to his retirement from the squared circle. However, The Phenom has previously admitted his desire to have one more match. Meanwhile, WWE Hall of Famer John Bradshaw Layfield (JBL) recently explained why The Deadman could have a great match with Cody Rhodes.
Reigning Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes has been among the company's top stars since WrestleMania XL, where he defeated Roman Reigns for the title. The American Nightmare continues to battle The Bloodline, but he has reached a level where he can draw lots of money for WWE in a dream match scenario.
During a live Q&A session with JBL and Gerald Brisco on Sportskeeda Wrestling's YouTube channel, The Undertaker's potential in-ring return was discussed. Brisco felt The Phenom could lock horns with John Cena during The Franchise Player's Retirement Tour.
While JBL liked the idea of a potential John Cena vs. The Undertaker match, the 57-year-old mentioned Cody Rhodes as a potential opponent for The Demon of Death Valley.
Top WWE star blasted, compared to Winnie the Pooh RIGHT HERE
"It could be a John Cena match or a Cody Rhodes match. I'm just saying I'm just talking about matchups. I have no personal information on any of this; I'm speculating. Fantasy booking here," he said. [35:02-36:18]
JBL further explained that a match between Cody Rhodes and The Undertaker made a lot of sense due to their size difference and The Deadman's history with The American Nightmare's father.
The former WWE Champion continued:
"No, you look at great matchups because of the association with Dusty and the legend Undertaker, the size differential, and the way they work, and they are both great workers. That would be a terrific match for The Undertaker." [36:28-36:42]
JBL won't be against whatever The Undertaker wants to do
The Undertaker has had one of the longest careers in pro wrestling. However, The Phenom slowed down considerably during his final years, eventually leading to an in-ring retirement.
In his prime, The Deadman was considered one of the best workers in wrestling, and according to JBL, some would even call Mark Calaway the greatest.
While there is a section of the fanbase who'd not want another Undertaker match, Bradshaw thought differently and was willing to accept anything that 'Taker wished for from a wrestling standpoint.
"[The] Undertaker is one of the best guys in the history of the business, and he is one of the greatest workers in the history of the business. You can argue he is the greatest, but that's all subjective. I would love to see him do whatever he wants to do," JBL said. [From 37:00 onwards]
While the chances of The Deadman's return are slim, another match would be highly beneficial to WWE and the veteran star himself if he could pull it off.
