The Undertaker retired from in-ring competition a year after Gunther made his WWE debut in 2019. In a recent podcast episode, The Deadman gave his thoughts on The Ring General's unique wrestling style.
Gunther is known for being one of WWE's hardest-hitting wrestlers. The World Heavyweight Champion's opponents often finish matches with marks across their chests due to the number of devastating chops he delivers.
On his Six Feet Under w/Mark Calaway podcast, The Undertaker praised the Austrian's work in recent years. The WWE icon also raised concerns that the RAW star risks becoming a good guy unless he acts in a more villainous manner:
"I like him," The Undertaker said. "I think he's kind of a throwback to a different era. As painful as those chops look, you think he's beating you down, which he is, without doing a bunch of aerial attacks, it's nice to see somebody grind somebody down. I think he's gonna have to be careful if he doesn't add a little more chicken s**t to his repertoire or he's gonna become a babyface much sooner than he expects. That's just the way it is now." Gunther held the Intercontinental Championship for a record-setting 666 days before losing to Sami Zayn at WrestleMania XL. He then won the 2024 King of the Ring tournament before beating Damian Priest at SummerSlam to capture the World Heavyweight Championship.
Kane addresses Gunther's in-ring style
The Undertaker was joined by his storyline half-brother Kane on the latest episode of his podcast. Kane, real name Glenn Jacobs, never faced Gunther in a WWE match.
The Big Red Machine jokingly added that he would have hit back if the Imperium member struck him with too many chops:
"Yeah, you'd also have to give it back, right?" Kane said. "I was fine with that, but on the other side is like, 'Well, I'm probably gonna hit you back too!'" [8:47 – 9:00]
On August 31, Gunther retained his title against Randy Orton in the Bash in Berlin main event. Moving forward, he looks set to feud with his former Intercontinental Championship rival Sami Zayn.
