Erik and Ivar made a striking comeback to WWE RAW in October, and in the process, they reverted to their War Raiders gimmick. So far, the duo have picked up quality wins in the tag team division and are seemingly in line to challenge Finn Bálor and JD McDonagh again.
The War Raiders are "a breath of fresh air," according to WWE Hall of Famer Kevin Nash. However, Nash also pointed out the difficulties of pulling off a gimmick as such in today's society.
Speaking on his podcast, Kliq This, Kevin Nash addressed the outlandish Viking gimmick, a major throwback to World Wrestling Entertainment's roots. While on the subject, he also revealed that Triple H and the latter's creative team have plans for the recently returned tag team:
"They were the Vikings before [The Viking Raiders], now they are something else. [WWE are] trying to get them up and running. [The War Raiders] got a win last week. It's just—it's very difficult in today's society to think those two cats walk through the airport dressed like that," Kevin Nash said.
The legend further went on to praise War Raiders for their in-ring prowess, also adding that how they manage to pull off the gimmick is admirable:
"Though the big guys are incredibly athletic," Nash said. "I absolutely think that it's a breath of fresh air." [From 4:20 to 5:18]
It remains to be seen what the title match is for next week's show. Adam Pearce informed The Prince this week that The Judgment Day members will defend their belts next week, albeit their challengers were not mentioned outright. This message came directly after Finn Bálor was announced as World Heavyweight Champion Gunther's challenger at Saturday Night's Main Event.
Could the War Raiders dethrone The Judgment Day on WWE RAW?
World Tag Team Champions Finn Bálor and JD McDonagh have only defended their belts twice since winning them on June 24, 2024. One of those defenses came at the expense of the War Raiders, who won the World Tag Team Championship number one contender's tournament upon their return to earn their shot at gold.
As seen in the video clip above, The Judgment Day crew interfered in favor of the champions, leading to a tainted victory. Erik and Ivar have held the NXT and RAW Tag Team Championships before, but they have yet to win the World Tag Team Title. Furthermore, the tag team has remained stagnant in the division for far too long. It remains to be seen if they manage to claim gold soon.
