A recent release of a now-former WWE star caught many fans by surprise. However, Hall of Famer Teddy Long believes that the future is ripe with opportunity for the star, especially considering the competition.
The star being talked about is Baron Corbin, whose 12-year tenure with the Stamford-based company ended this November. While he was not fired by the promotion, The Lone Wolf's contract was not renewed, which effectively made him a free agent. Despite being talented and a friendly name backstage, Baron did not have a world title run in the company.
While speaking on Sportskeeda Wrestling's The Wrestling Time Machine podcast hosted by Mac Davis, WWE Hall of Famer Teddy Long stated:
"Baron Corbin, I had a chance to speak with him in the past in times that I go back and do stuff, but I didn't really know him that well. But he's always a nice guy, great attitude. You know, I don't wanna see anybody lose their job, you know what I mean, but this is the wrestling business, you know, and hopefully, you know, they can move on, there's another company there that are picking up some of our WWE guys, so hope they know he can get employed." Bill Apter also commented on Baron Corbin's departure from WWE
According to veteran wrestling journalist Bill Apter, Baron Corbin could have been retained by WWE as a backstage name.
While speaking on the same episode of Sportskeeda Wrestling's The Wrestling Time Machine podcast, Apter shared his thoughts on Baron leaving the Stamford-based company. He stated:
"For such a long time, they have been trying to get him a character that was gonna work. He is such a great guy, and he is really very good in the ring. I wish they'd have kept him for a backstage guy or for a trainer down at NXT. But they tried, you know, with the Happy Corbin and so many other angles on him, and it just didn't work." [0:52 onwards]
As of now, it remains to be seen what is next for Baron Corbin.
