WWE SmackDown this week featured a Motor City Machine Guns promo. The backstage interview was followed by a match between Alex Shelley and Johnny Gargano. The closing moment of the match saw Tommaso Ciampa arrive to cost Shelley the match.
During a recent edition of BroDown on Backstage Pass, Vince Russo was asked to comment on the MCMG promo. The former WWE writer was critical of the segment (and the whole show), noting that fans couldn't care less what any of the wrestlers were doing on SmackDown.
"It's a wrestling promo. The biggest problem with this show is there's no reason to care about any of these guys. The Motor City Machine Guns just came in. They haven't been around long enough for you to care about. Gargano and Ciampa; nobody cares about them... You don't care about these people." [10:42 onwards]
This isn't the first time Russo went vocal with his criticism of Gargano's gimmick. The former WCW Champion previously stated that he couldn't take one-half of the WWE Tag Team Champions seriously:

"I can't take him seriously. I just can't. I can't take it seriously," stated Russo. [From 19:44 onwards]
DIY is set to close out 2024 with the Tag Team Titles around their waist. It remains to be seen how Triple H boos the SmackDown's tag team division for the year to come.
