The New Day has been one of the most prominent groups in WWE since forming in 2014. Former WCW and WWE writer Vince Russo recently explained why he thinks now is the right time for the faction to break up.
Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods have performed as a tag team since fellow New Day member Big E suffered a serious neck injury in 2022. In August 2024, Odyssey Jones briefly formed an alliance with Kingston and Woods before reportedly receiving his release amid domestic violence allegations.
On Sportskeeda Wrestling's Writing With Russo, Russo told host Dr. Chris Featherstone that The New Day should separate for good:
"Bro, put a bullet in New Day. I said that six months ago. Put a bullet in New Day. New Day's over. They're done. They've had their run. They made their money. It's over. Put a bullet in New Day." [13:19 – 13:32]

In the video above, Russo also addressed why he thinks WWE should have handled the claims against Jones differently.
Vince Russo on The New Day's future in WWE
Kofi Kingston joined WWE in 2006 and is one of the company's longest-tenured wrestlers. Vince Russo thinks the former WWE Champion could use his experience to help the younger generation as a coach or producer.
Regarding Xavier Woods' future, Russo jokingly referenced the New Day member's involvement in a leaked video with AEW's Saraya (fka Paige) in 2017:
"They want Kofi to be a coach at NXT? They want Kofi to be an agent? Whatever they're gonna do. Maybe Creed [Xavier Woods] becomes an amateur cameraman. Who knows, bro? The New Day thing, it's done." [13:33 – 13:49]
It is unclear whether Big E will ever be cleared to wrestle again. Kingston and Woods have won the NXT Tag Team Title during their stablemate's absence. However, they have not held a main roster title since capturing the RAW Tag Team Championship in 2021.
