Hulk Hogan was back on WWE TV on Monday Night RAW, and as observed, the Hall of Famer didn't get a lot of love from the live audience. Vince Russo discussed the negative reaction to Hogan's return and explained how modern fans and their preferences have changed.
The debut RAW episode on Netflix was bound to be a special affair, and WWE did not disappoint regarding the big-name returns. The Undertaker, Rock, and Hulk Hogan were in the building for a show that featured just four wrestling matches.
Hogan predictably cut a promo alongside Jimmy Hart, and unlike back in the day when all he got was the fans' adulation, the former WWE Champion was subjected to quite a few boos last night.
The crowd's reaction to Hulk Hogan surprised many as he is amongst the most popular wrestlers of all time. Vince Russo, however, stated that Hogan's reputation had taken a hit due to the various "strikes" he has received in his career.
Moreover, Russo has observed a noticeable shift in what modern-day wrestling fans want as opposed to the viewers from Hulk Hogan's era.
The former WWE writer explained:
"Everybody knows who Hulk Hogan is, like everybody knows! You didn't have to watch one wrestling show in your life to know who Hulk Hogan is. But, you know, he does have a lot of strikes against him in his career, there is no question about that. And he represented an era of entertainment and not athleticism and this is not for that crowd. They don't want that entertainment, they don't want this, they think big leg drops suck. So they are not Hogan people." [14:20 onwards]
Hulk Hogan's in-ring days are way past him, but he is still amongst those legends that WWE leans toward for sporadic appearances. The latest one, though, has seemingly not given them the desired results.
