WWE star CM Punk and Drew McIntyre were face to face this week on RAW. The Special Guest Referee for their match Seth 'Freakin' Rollins, called them out to the ring to lay down the rules of refereeing for the bout.
The opening segment went pretty long as CM Punk and Drew McIntyre spewed venom against each other on the mic. Rollins also clarified that he wasn't a man of either competitor and would call the match as he pleased. The segment ended with Punk and Drew sizing up each other.
During this week's episode of Legion of RAW, former WWE head writer Russo felt the segment went nowhere, with CM Punk and Drew McIntyre repeating the same narratives.
The wrestling veteran detailed that fans gave Vince McMahon flak for scripting promos, but this segment was an example of why scripted promos are sometimes a necessity.

"You guys want to carry on about Vince McMahon scripting promos? I wish Vince McMahon scripted this promo. This promo was all over the place. It absolutely sucked with all freaking parties involved. It went on for about 18 minutes, it went nowhere, and it ends with the five-cent bracelet again at the end. This was hot garbage," Russo said. [From 11:31 onwards]
With the go-home episode of RAW over, the two stars will finally cross paths at SummerSlam.
It will be interesting to see what role Seth Rollins plays in determining the outcome of the encounter.
