Tony Khan is secretly being provoked by AEW stars, says WWE veteran (Exclusive)

While AEW started out hot when the company was founded, it is clear that it has dwindled in popularity in comparison to WWE. While some think that this has led to the promotion pulling off more outrageous spots and segments to attract fans, a veteran thinks there may be another reason for it.

Over the years, AEW has undoubtedly stretched the limits of what can and should be presented on TV. The promotion regularly has some extremely intense matches, where blood is quite common. Risky spots and dangerous segments are rarely shied away from. A relatively recent match between Hangman Adam Page and Swerve Strickland saw the latter going through exceptional pain in the now infamous syringe spot.

Speaking on Sportskeeda's The Wrestling Outlaws, Vince Russo questioned whether the stars were secretly trying to see the extent of Tony Khan's tolerance. He stated:

"Could they just be throwing all kinds of crazy cr*p out there to kind of see if Tony Khan will say no to anything? I mean seriously. Are they like in the back, 'Okay bro I am gonna shoot this pastor, we're gonna use this syringe...' Are they doing this to see if Tony Khan says no to anything?" [3:05 onwards]

EC3 also shared his thoughts on the WWE veteran's theory

According to former WWE Superstar EC3, Vince Russo's thoughts did deserve consideration despite probably not being correct.

Adding to Vince's comments on Sportskeeda's The Wrestling Outlaws, EC3 stated that while the theory may have been correct at one point in the wrestling business, he could not say this was the case in AEW.

"I think if it was a different time, yes. I don't know if in 2024 the boys have that mentality, like, 'What could we really get away with?' But I do not, like I know them but I don't know them too well personally, and how much of hijinks and tomfoolery they are into." [3:48 onwards]

As of now, it remains to be seen how AEW will handle these dangerous spots down the line.
