Triple H recently addressed a shocking twist on this week's episode of WWE RAW that left the viewers stunned. The Game shared his reaction to Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods booting Big E out of The New Day.
In one of the most emotionally charged moments in recent WWE memory, Woods and Kingston verbally thrashed the 38-year-old star and turned down his request to return as their on-screen manager. Though the segment on RAW was meant to celebrate The New Day's 10th anniversary, it ended in a heartbreaking fashion.
Triple H has now opened up about the betrayal that left the fans numb. In a media interaction to promote RAW amid its upcoming move to Netflix, the WWE Chief Content Officer spoke about how the angle got pro wrestling fans buzzing. He also revealed that the twist had been planned well in advance before it was executed.
“Everybody online and our fans and people we talk to around the world are trying to predict (…) It’s no different than going to a movie. Like, that guy did it. I know he did it. I know that guy did it. And then it blows your mind when it wasn't him, it was somebody else, right? This was one that I didn't see anybody, anywhere calling the direction it was going to go in. And that was sort of the plan for a very long period of time. When you can get there, it's wonderful," said Triple H. (H/T - Sports Illustrated)
The New Day officially formed in 2014 and found much success in the singles and tag team divisions.
Triple H on generating reaction from WWE fans
During the same conversation, Triple H added that the crowd reaction The New Day's implosion generated was the kind of moment WWE always intended to create. He added that now with RAW moving to Netflix, the promotion would be able to deliver more of such iconic moments for an even wider audience across the globe.
"It's those moments. It's why we do what we do. It's that moment when you're in the ring and [The] Rock says it all the time. It's that electricity, that connection with the people. There's no greater feeling than that. When we can get that in front of 10,000, 70,000, it doesn't matter what it is, we'll get it around the globe on Netflix. Those moments are why we do what we do and invest and pay that off to fans who have been watching week in, week out.”
It remains to be seen how The New Day's new heel avatar would fare in WWE and if they would be able to achieve the same level of success they did as babyfaces.
