Triple H gave an update on John Cena's planned retirement tour next year following WWE SummerSlam. Cena is set to end his wrestling career in 2025 after more than 20 years with the company.

In a surprise appearance at the Money in the Bank Premium Live Event in Toronto, Canada last month, Cena announced his plan to retire next year. He is expected to wrestle around 30 to 40 times in 2025, including the biggest PLEs like WrestleMania 41 in Las Vegas.

Sportskeeda's Senior Editor Bill Apter asked Triple H for an update on Cena's status at the SummerSlam post-show press conference. Here's what the WWE's Chief Content Officer said:

"He's going to come back soon. I don't remember exactly what we said or what he said. John has earned the right in his career to do whatever he wants, when he wants and I'm happy to be there for him. I believe it is the beginning of the year, John will come back. And it's sort of like the farewell tour that has an end to it, and john is going to come back and just have a blast like he always does. He's going to come back and be there for the Royal Rumble, so that will be his last Royal Rumble."

He continued:

"He will be there for the Elimination Chamber. He will be there for Wrestlemania. That will be his last Wrestlemania. Then it will continue and by the end of 2025, that will be the end of John Cena. Not in WWE, not in Hollywood for sure or anything else that he decides to do, but it will be the end of seeing John Cena competitive and active in the ring." [1:14:22 - 1:15:34]

John Cena last wrestled on RAW after WrestleMania 40 when he teamed up with Awesome Truth to beat Finn Balor, Dominik Mysterio, and JD McDonagh of the Judgment Day.

CM Punk to team up with John Cena?

During his appearance at the San Diego Comic-Con last month, CM Punk shared that he finds it interesting that people asked him about teaming up with John Cena. Punk and Cena had one of the greatest rivalries in WWE history, so it could be cool for fans to see them team up during the latter's farewell tour.

"Everybody’s asking me because Cena has announced his retirement that, you know, obviously they wanna see us fight each other. I think there's something to me and him tagging. I think that can be pretty interesting," Punk said. (H/T POST Wrestling)

The rise of Punk to superstardom was driven by his feud with Cena, who had to elevate his wrestling game against the "best in the world" back then in the early 2010s.
