Triple H has overseen WWE's main roster creative direction since replacing his father-in-law Vince McMahon in July 2022. One of The Game's close friends, Kevin Nash, recently shed light on why Cody Rhodes has become one of the company's top stars over the last two years.
On April 7, Rhodes defeated Roman Reigns at WrestleMania XL to win the Undisputed WWE Championship. Triple H also booked The American Nightmare as the winner of the 2023 and 2024 Men's Royal Rumble matches.
Nash said on his Kliq This podcast that Rhodes' work ethic is likely the biggest reason Triple H believes in him. The two-time Hall of Famer added that he would like to have seen the SmackDown star face Sean Waltman, fka The 1-2-3 Kid, in the 1990s:
"I think that Paul's [Paul Levesque, Triple H's real name] affection and loyalty to Cody is because Cody's that grinder," Nash stated. "Cody knows. If Cody was working Kid on our card, Cody [would have] worked 312 days across from Sean. Those would have been unbelievable to watch." [1:15:47 – 1:16:26]

Rhodes' most recent televised Undisputed WWE Championship defense came against Kevin Owens at Bash in Berlin on August 31. He will defend the title against Solo Sikoa in a Steel Cage match on the September 13 episode of SmackDown.
Kevin Nash on Triple H's difficult WWE job
Before becoming the head of creative on RAW and SmackDown, Triple H was in charge of WWE's NXT developmental brand for a decade. Until 2022, Vince McMahon oversaw main roster storylines and had the final say on when to call up talents from NXT.
Although Triple H has been widely praised for his storytelling, Kevin Nash does not think his job is easy:
"It's gotta be so difficult for Paul. I just think he wanted to show everybody what he could do because he was a racehorse and Vince was just holding those reins. They gave him a little breath of f***ing freedom down in NXT and the next thing you know that's the hottest product on the WWE Network." [1:14:51 – 1:15:21]
Nash became friends with Scott Hall, Sean Waltman, Shawn Michaels, and Triple H in the 1990s. Known as The Kliq, they traveled together and often competed in matches with and against each other.
