Triple H has worked with some of the biggest names in the wrestling business since joining WWE in 1995. In a recent interview, The Game explained why he believes it is "disrespectful" to name a wrestling version of Mount Rushmore.
Reporters often ask those in the industry to select their top four all-time wrestling legends. Andre the Giant, Bret Hart, Bruno Sammartino, Hulk Hogan, Ric Flair, The Rock, Shawn Michaels, Steve Austin, and The Undertaker are usually among people's selections. In recent years, John Cena and Roman Reigns have also emerged as Mount Rushmore candidates.
Speaking to GQ Sports, Triple H refused to reveal which four icons would appear on his list:
"It's too hard to say, for me to pick a Mount Rushmore. There's just so many amazing athletes that cross generations. To pick four people in an industry that has been built to the level it's at over people's dedication, blood, sweat, tears, all that stuff, to me is disrespectful to the others that should be on there. I could name you 50 people that should be on a Mount Rushmore of WWE." [0:00 – 0:26]
Triple H won 14 world titles before retiring from in-ring competition. In 2021, legendary commentator Jim Ross said on Grilling JR that WWE's Chief Content Officer is probably excluded from Mount Rushmore lists due to jealousy.
Triple H names two WWE legends worthy of recognition
Although he did not choose his top four all-time greats, Triple H acknowledged that Hulk Hogan would have to feature on a Mount Rushmore list.
The King of Kings added that WWE's top star in the 1960s and 1970s, Bruno Sammartino, would also deserve a spot:
"If you say Hulk Hogan, you gotta say Bruno Sammartino," Triple H continued. "The generations of athletes, every generation they're the greatest, so I wouldn't wanna pick just four." [0:26 – 0:40]
WWE pays tribute to wrestling legends every year with a Hall of Fame ceremony during WrestleMania week. Sammartino was inducted in 2013, while Hogan received an individual induction in 2005 and a group induction with the nWo in 2020.
