The Rock shocked the WWE Universe by returning for WrestleMania XL season earlier this year. The Great One wrestled just one match in this run, but made several notable appearances on both RAW and SmackDown. He then took off again for filming duties, but now Triple H has teased the return of his longtime rival and friend.
The Final Boss wrestled his first match in 7 years on Night One of WrestleMania XL, teaming with Roman Reigns for a win over Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins. He then got involved in a melee on Night Two as Rhodes won the Undisputed WWE Championship from Reigns. Rock had a slightly awkward moment on the follwoing RAW and then signed off with his post-WrestleMania update.
Triple H, Nick Khan, and others spoke at Sports Business Journal's World Congress of Sports in Los Angeles this week. The Chief Content Officer was asked about the impact The Great One has.
"I can only imagine what’s next for The Rock, he’s got his hands in just about everything. We were thrilled to have Rock be involved, when you can have the biggest star on the globe, arguably, want to be a part of what we do, and in a meaningful way, and want to do it in a way where he’s not just like, 'Hey, yeah, I’ll come in, tell me what to do, I’ll go do this,’ but all of his resources, all of his brain power, all of his creative, all of those things, his branding, everything, ‘I want to invest in this, I want to make it an amazing ride for our fans’ - it doesn’t get any better than that," Triple H said.
New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE
Triple H continued and praised The Final Boss for his level of commitment. He also looked ahead to Rock's return.
"So his coming in, just across the board, if you would've told me in the beginning of the conversation that we we’re going to get The Final Boss heel version of The Rock, I would have said, 'You’re crazy,’ but that’s his level of commitment. He goes off, makes a few movies now but as he said a week ago, he’ll be back and it’ll be a hell of a ride when he comes back," Triple H said.
Triple H went on to recall how he and The Rock get goosebumps in front of crowds like WrestleMania, and how one could really see that Rock loves what he's doing in WWE. He said felt fortunate to have worked with The Brahma Bull years ago, and now, and it was a blast to get together and create magic again.
WWE star helped Triple H sign Tama Tonga
Former NJPW star Tama Tonga recently made his WWE debut, joining Solo Sikoa in The Bloodline to kick Jimmy Uso out of the group. Tonga later implied he was sent by The Tribal Chief, though he didn't take the name of Roman Reigns.
Karl Anderson spoke to Busted Open Radio and revealed how he texted Tonga's contract status to The Game after Anderson had just dropped the NEVER Openweight Championship to the Anoa'i Family member, as a contracted WWE talent, with Triple H's permission.
"After my Tokyo Dome match in 2023, which Triple H let me do, because we signed back with WWE and I was still a champion in New Japan, and he still allowed me to go do two more dates with New Japan Pro-Wrestling, with no issue at all. But I remember texting Triple H and telling him, 'Tama Tonga's contract is coming up and I think Tama's a full-blown can't-miss if you ask me,' and he wrote back right away. It took a year to get it done, but, like I said... I'm a big believer in stuff happening for a reason, and now he's here," Karl Anderson said.
Anderson went on to praise Tonga and offered a unique perspective on WWE allowing certain nicknames to be said, along with other changes.
