It seems Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes had issues with a certain star on the rival brand behind the scenes, which dates back to their days as independent wrestlers. As an apology, the man in question asked Rhodes to put him over when they cross paths.
The Judgment Day's JD McDonagh looked back at the OTT Being The Elite event in 2017, the venue of his crowning moment. He became the OTT No Limits Champion, but it was in front of an exhausted crowd. This is because the match that preceded it, featuring The American Nightmare, Flip Gordon, and Rey Fenix, went longer than anticipated.
In an interview with Irish Wrestling & Entertainment, McDonagh recounted the day he met Cody Rhodes in WWE. JD did not expect Rhodes to remember him but claimed that the latter was gracious. Furthermore, he called the Undisputed WWE Champion a "class act" before revealing what he asked from him in return for what happened at the OTT Being The Elite event:
"My first day on RAW, we met up and we squashed the beef, the years-long beef. No, I'd gotten over it by that stage, of course. It's water under the bridge. Cody is a class act. I wasn't even sure he would remember who I was by the time I got to RAW, but he made a beeline for me and let me know that he was sorry about it. I said to him, 'Look, one day you're going to lose that title. You can put me over then.'" [From 5:50 to 6:16]

JD McDonagh is currently one-half of the World Tag Team Champions alongside longtime friend Finn Bálor. This is his first championship reign on WWE's main roster.
Cody Rhodes set to face Gunther at WWE Crown Jewel
At Bad Blood, Cody Rhodes teamed up with Roman Reigns, a union nobody could have anticipated prior, and defeated Solo Sikoa and Jacob Fatu. It appears, at least for the time being, that The American Nightmare is moving past The Bloodline.
On RAW two days later, World Heavyweight Champion Gunther retained his belt against Sami Zayn. As a result of WWE CCO Triple H's announcement at Bad Blood, The Ring General will square off with SmackDown's Undisputed WWE Champion for the Crown Jewel Championship at Crown Jewel.
This is their first encounter in singles competition, having always been separated owing to the brand split. Gunther, though, had previously noted how he views Cody Rhodes as someone he will have many battles with down the line.
