WWE Analyst Sam Roberts thinks Tama Tonga should win the King of Ring tournament. He claimed the 41-year-old losing to Randy Orton on SmackDown could hurt The Bloodline.
As the King and Queen of the Ring premium live event approaches, three matches remain in the men's tournament. While Jey Uso will square off against Gunther tonight on RAW in the first semifinal match, Randy Orton will fight Tama Tonga on SmackDown next Friday in the second. The winners will go head-to-head for the crown on Saturday in Saudi Arabia.
On his Notsam Wrestling podcast, Roberts discussed the ongoing competition. While he highlighted that an ideal final would see The Viper face The Ring General, the WWE Analyst stressed that Tama Tonga should be the one winning the tournament:
"Part of me wonders, you know, I didn't think Tama Tonga, until I was thinking about it today. I went: 'Well, Tama Tonga is not gonna win the King of the Ring.' But maybe he should, right? Because I do think that the natural instinct is that it's Gunther versus Randy Orton in the King of the Ring final. I think Gunther versus Randy Orton is a main-event-level match anywhere in the world. Gunther versus Randy Orton is a fantasy-booking type of match. And if you're trying to legitimately crown a king of this roster, having a match between Randy Orton and Gunther to decide that is kind of what's it's all about," he said. [40:01 - 40:48]

However, the 40-year-old stated that the scenario of The Ring General facing Orton is almost too perfect, pointing out that WWE teased multiple big matches, including Gunther versus Ilja Dragunov and Bianca Belair versus Jade Cargill. Nevertheless, they did not happen. Meanwhile, Roberts claimed it would be hard for The Bloodline to recover if Tonga lost to Orton next Friday on SmackDown:
"Randy Orton versus Tama Tonga is happening on SmackDown on Friday. There's no reason why The Bloodline couldn't interfere and cost Randy Orton that match. Again, Randy would lose nothing. And I would argue that at this point, if Tama lost to Randy Orton, it might be tough for The Bloodline to recover." [43:27 - 43:46]
Ex-WWE star also thinks neither Randy Orton nor Gunther should win the King of the Ring tournament
While Sam Roberts thinks Tama Tonga should win the King of the Ring tournament and not Gunther or Randy Orton, former WWE Superstar Matthew Rehwoldt (fka Aiden English) believes Jey Uso should capture the crown.
The 36-year-old explained why he thinks this is a chance for the company to prop up the former Bloodline member. The ex-NXT Tag Team Champion claimed Jey Uso needs to win something, even if it is not a WWE title:
"To me, Gunther is a very logical and very likely choice. (...) But I think it's gotta be Jey. Jey has been touted around this main event and everything, beating Roman, being put in these main [events] but hasn't won sh*t. He needs to win. This is a great chance to prop him up with a little bit of an attaboy without just being like, 'Yeah, he's the main event' and lose. 'Yeah, he's the main event guy' and lose. 'Yeah, he's the next big guy' but he loses. Like, he needs to win something, doesn't have to be a title. That's why this is perfect for him," he said.
All four remaining competitors in the King of the Ring have a legitimate chance of winning the tournament. It would be interesting to see which WWE Superstar will come out on top in Saudi Arabia.
