About 24 hours removed from Monday’s Raw, WWE champion C.M. Punk issued a statement through WWE’s website, addressing the fan incident at the end of Raw when Punk struck a fan.
Punk said, “I think the whole situation sucks. It’s an unfortunate and isolated incident. I was up in the stands, surrounded.”
Punk continued, “Somebody said, ‘Let’s push him down the stairs. I got hit in the ribs three times. I was getting shoved and I was getting punched. … Then I started getting tagged in the back of the head. Unfortunately, I lashed out in the heat of the moment and I apologize.” Punk concluded with an opinion: “I’m really just glad nobody was hurt.”
The fan who Punk struck complained of warmness in his face and eventually, knee pain, after Punk shoved him down after initially striking him. The fan, who did not appear to jab, punch, or strike Punk during the events, filed a police report with Sacramento authorities, which could prompt a police investigation.
