Vince McMahon's old WWE regime saw several popular stars get a massive push in the promotion due to their physical prowess over any other skill. Recently, fans reacted to a newly announced match and questioned the booking of a former champion under the new regime.
Earlier this year, Cody Rhodes returned to WWE and won the Men's Royal Rumble match, which gave him a ticket to the main event of WrestleMania 39 against Roman Reigns. After losing to The Tribal Chief, The American Nightmare's journey has been filled with adversity at every step.
Recently, management announced a singles bout between Cody Rhodes and The Judgment Day's Damian Priest for WWE Crown Jewel 2023. The fans are extremely divided over it, as many believe that the match is nothing more than a filler and that the company is not able to book Rhodes like the previous regime.
Check out some of the reactions below:
Earlier this year, the management did something similar with Cody Rhodes when he feuded with The Judgment Day's Dominik Mysterio for around a month before returning to his ongoing feud with Brock Lesnar. It will be interesting to see what's next for The American Nightmare.
Vince McMahon personally went to Cody Rhodes' house to get him back into WWE
Last year, Cody Rhodes' status with AEW was in the air as he worked with the promotion without a contract while he was holding the TNT Championship for the third time. In the end, he dropped the title to Sammy Guevera in a Ladder match before leaving the promotion.
After departing AEW, Cody and Brandi Rhodes became one of the biggest free agents in the world of sports entertainment. Speaking to Chris Van Vliet, The American Nightmare revealed what happened when Vince McMahon personally came to his house to bring him back into WWE. Check it out:
"I think he laughed," Rhodes said. "He has that like, 'Hahahaha!' I remember going in to talk to him. I wasn't afraid of anything and I was over-compensating because both Vince McMahon and Bruce Prichard were so welcoming and so positive about what I had done. The fact that they knew what I had done and actually were citing different things. Like, 'I saw this, I saw this,' I couldn't believe it." (h/t TJR Wrestling)
Vince McMahon left the offer for him to rejoin, and Cody Rhodes made his way back to WWE at WrestleMania 38, where he defeated Seth Rollins.
