Vince McMahon's exit from WWE opened the door for new collaborations and new stars to take the top spot in the Stamford-based promotion. Recently, Jim Cornette spoke highly of Drew McIntyre's recent work and stated he has become one of the greatest wrestlers in the world.
Drew McIntyre had a banger year in 2024 as he was involved in one of the hottest feuds of the year with CM Punk. Moreover, The Scottish Warrior improved significantly on the mic and even got his moment to capture a World Championship in front of a live crowd at WrestleMania.
Speaking on Official Jim Cornette, the veteran spoke highly of the former two-time WWE and one-time World Heavyweight Champion. Moreover, he claimed McIntyre became one of the best wrestlers in the world following Vince McMahon's exit from the company.
"Again, where was this guy hiding all along, all our lives? Drew McIntyre has become, ever since Vince McMahon left, one of the greatest wrestlers in the world, hasn't he? Yeah," Cornette said. [From 01:00 - 01:22]
Mustafa Ali explains why Retribution failed as a faction under Vince McMahon's WWE regime
Vince McMahon often moved on from projects when he lost interest. Drew McIntyre was once McMahon's chosen one in the industry before the boss lost interest and McIntyre was released from WWE. However, he made his way back to the company and achieved more success in the coming years.
Unfortunately, the same can't be said about every Vince McMahon project, including Retribution. In an interview with Chris Van Vliet, Mustafa Ali explained a backstage power struggle affected the group's momentum. Moreover, McMahon lost interest in making the faction a legitimate threat on WWE's main roster.
"Retribution failed because there wasn't a why. Vince lost interest in it. Not my story to tell; there was a power struggle between people, and Retribution was affected because of that. It wasn't anything directly involved with me. So, it's not my story to tell. We suffered because of that, and I think at the end of the day, if there was a why and there was some effort behind it to make it a legitimate threat, it would've been great," Ali said.
