Bill Goldberg and Brock Lesnar have been two of WWE's top part-time attractions over the last decade. Vince Russo, WWE's former head writer, recently gave his take on Vince McMahon's controversial booking of the legendary superstars.
In 2019, Lesnar defeated Kofi Kingston in seven seconds to win the WWE Championship on the premiere episode of SmackDown on FOX. Former Chairman Vince McMahon also booked Goldberg as a part-time Universal Champion in 2017 and 2020.
On Sportskeeda Wrestling's Writing With Russo, Russo told host Dr. Chris Featherstone that McMahon failed to build big full-time names around that time. As a result, he had little choice but to rely on high-profile veterans:
"Bro, I don't think he dropped the ball because he had no other choice because they're [full-time wrestlers] not over," Russo said. "But they're not over because of the company. I mean, they're not over because of him. They're not over because of Triple H. That's why they're not over, so he had no other choice but to do what he did, but that doesn't solve your problem of people not being over." [4:29 – 4:55]

Watch the video above to hear Russo's honest take on whether RAW will improve when the show moves to Netflix.
Vince Russo on WWE legends' lack of impact
On January 6, 2025, RAW will air on Netflix for the first time. Logan Paul has moved to the red brand ahead of the show's premiere, while CM Punk vs. Seth Rollins has been announced for the event.
Vince Russo expects legends to return in the first few weeks of RAW on Netflix. Beyond that, he thinks the show will revert to what it is now:
"So, yeah, bro, wheel them all out," Russo continued. "Wheel [John] Cena out, wheel Goldberg out, wheel Rock out, bring Kurt [Angle] back. Bring all of them back, bro, and then, mark my words, by the fourth show you're gonna have a typical SmackDown, you're gonna have a typical RAW." [4:55 – 5:11]
In a separate video, Russo reacted to Triple H's claim that WWE was now bigger than during the Attitude Era.
