WWE recently made a massive change in its programming, with RAW being reduced to two hours. According to Vince Russo, this same sort of change was not necessary when he was working with WCW, for apparently a simple reason.
Back in WCW's heyday, Nitro, during a point, ran for three hours straight. However, Vince Russo claims it wasn't boring at all, especially compared to RAW's schedule currently. According to the former head writer, this was due to how the show was written and structured and how well the entire roster was used.
Speaking on Sportskeeda Wrestling's The Wrestling Outlaws podcast, Russo explained his perspective on the matter.
"When we first went to WCW, Nitro was 3 hours. We wrote nine 3-hour Nitros, bro we had no problem. We had no problem whatsoever and the shows flowed and they weren't boring. You know why Chris? We used the entire roster," he said. [5:19 onwards]

Vince Russo believes this WWE RAW change will be permanent
According to the veteran, the decision for RAW to be shortened to two hours will not change going forward, despite the show moving to Netflix next year.
Speaking on an episode of Legion of RAW, Vince Russo explained that WWE probably wanted to turn back the clock to their previous format. He also made it clear that his opinion was not backed by official sources or inside information.
"I think it's gonna be permanent. I'm telling you. I don't think they'd go from three to two and back to three. I think they haven't formatted a two-hour show in a long time. I think they want to get that back down to a formula. That's why they are doing it three months ahead of time. I'm gonna tell you, I could be totally wrong. I got no inside information or nothing. But I can't believe they are gonna go back to three hours on Netflix," he said. [From 15:10 onwards]
As of now, it remains to be seen what other changes WWE RAW may go through after the new format.
