Vince Russo was WWE's head writer in the late 1990s when RAW drew the highest television ratings in the show's history on USA Network. Ahead of RAW's move to Netflix, the one-time WCW World Heavyweight Champion is unsure if the deal will improve WWE's product.
On October 4, 2019, the premiere episode of SmackDown on FOX averaged 3.869 million viewers. This week, WWE Chief Content Officer Triple H and several wrestlers appeared at the company's headquarters to promote the first RAW episode on Netflix on January 6, 2025.
Host Dr. Chris Featherstone asked on Sportskeeda Wrestling's Writing With Russo how WWE can maintain the hype around RAW's switch to Netflix. Russo downplayed WWE's deal with the streaming giant and likened it to SmackDown's move to FOX:

"Chris, they don't. Guys, again, people have very short memories. Go back to the [SmackDown] premiere on FOX. They did the same exact thing, and it was an enormous number, that first week, an enormous number the first week. I think by the time a month was over I think they were half of that number in a month, and from there it was just another wrestling show. That's what happens, Chris. Vince Russo's WWE RAW on Netflix prediction
The first SmackDown on FOX began with an appearance from The Rock and ended with Brock Lesnar's seven-second WWE Championship win over Kofi Kingston.
WWE has already announced the arrival of Logan Paul on RAW ahead of the show's Netflix debut. In the long run, however, Vince Russo does not think the inclusion of big names will make a difference:
"They're gonna give it the FOX treatment. 'Here comes everybody, here comes this one, here comes that one,' the whole nine yards, and within a month it will be just another wrestling show on another channel." [2:16 – 2:31]
CM Punk vs. Seth Rollins will take place on the first RAW episode on Netflix. The two men have not faced each other one-on-one since Punk defeated his long-term rival on the December 30, 2013, episode of RAW.
