New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE
You can see in the clip how Mone fell off the top rope and seemingly twisted her ankle. Even after the injury, she finished the bout with a limping foot.
Mone, who had previously won the IWGP Women's Championship, also had her eyes on the NJPW Strong Women's Championship. Unfortunately, she couldn't secure the title on Sunday night.
Today, The Boss took to Twitter to address her injury. Mone wrote:
"WRESTLING!!!! Phew, not how I dreamed for tonight to go. I’m so sorry and I love you guys so much. I’m gonna heal and be back better than ever."
In the comments section of her post, fans appreciated that she continued to fight after her injury, exhibiting remarkable resilience.
How did the match go for Mercedes Mone after the injury?
Mone did not hold back even after suffering a broken ankle. She landed some impressive blows on her opponent until the end of the match and gave a good fight.
Much to the dismay of The Boss' fans, Mone could not win the title as Willow Nightingale managed to pin her with a powerbomb. The AEW star became the first-ever NJPW Strong Women's Champion following her victory.
After the bout, Nightingale took to Twitter to show Mone her love and appreciation, wishing her a speedy recovery. Fans, too, have wished Mone luck and are eager to see her return soon.
We at Sportskeeda are rooting for Mone to make a massive comeback once she is fully fit.
