Former WWE manager Jim Cornette feels Cody Rhodes will eventually suffer a betrayal from one of his closest friends. Rhodes is the current Undisputed WWE Champion.

Last week on SmackDown, Rhodes and Randy Orton were backstage when the latter told the champion he would always have his back. The Apex Predator told Rhodes that even after he was done with The Bloodline, there would be other stars waiting to target him. Orton assured The American Nightmare of his support as the segment ended.

On a recent episode of The Jim Cornette Experience, the veteran recalled the segment and discussed Orton's body language. Cornette claimed it would be a great storyline, given Rhodes' history with his former Legacy stablemate. He pointed out how The Viper often looked at the title with keen interest long enough for fans to catch it.

"Orton tells Cody, 'I promise, I'm gonna have your back then too when all those people are coming at you.' He wants him to have that belt so he can beat him for that belt. They don't even have to do this for a year. It's fu**ing great. You see, every time that the belt and Orton are in the same place, there's a point where he looks at it with lust in his eyes. It's just long enough for you to notice and then it's gone." [1:16 - 1:48]

Cody Rhodes spoke about Randy Orton this week

During the main event of last week's show, The Bloodline annihilated Cody Rhodes and Randy Orton. The vicious faction put Orton through a table and forced Rhodes to watch helplessly.

The American Nightmare kicked off the program this week, addressing the attack. He announced that Orton was not on the show and was nursing his injuries. He even thanked the 14-time World Champion for being his mentor and friend. Rhodes claimed that he wouldn't have become the champ without Orton's guidance during the early days of his professional wrestling career.

The night ended badly for the Undisputed WWE Champion as he and Kevin Owens were once again victimized by The Bloodline. Jacob Fatu proved to be the difference-maker as he neutralized both men.

With just a little over a week to go for SummerSlam, it will be interesting to see how Cody Rhodes prepares for his challenge against Solo Sikoa at The Biggest Event of the Summer.
