WWE announces popular duo are injured ahead of SmackDown

WWE announced that a popular duo was injured ahead of the upcoming edition of SmackDown. Tonight's episode of the blue brand will air live from Phoenix, Arizona.

The promotion shared a video featuring SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis in the medical office ahead of tonight's show. Aldis announced that The Street Profits (Montez Ford and Angelo Dawkins) had both aggravated existing injuries at WWE live events and were not medically cleared for action for the foreseeable future.

"The Street Profits were both hurt this past week on live events and, despite their wishes, the medical team has informed me that they are not cleared to compete and will be out for the foreseeable future," said Aldis.

The Street Profits challenged the Motor City Machine Guns for the WWE Tag Team Championship on the November 15 edition of SmackDown, but Tommaso Ciampa interfered in the match. Ciampa and Johnny Gargano (#DIY) have since captured the titles on the blue brand.

Former WWE manager claims the company has held back a member of the Street Profits

Wrestling legend Dutch Mantell recently suggested that the company has been holding Montez Ford back as a member of the Street Profits.

Speaking on Sportskeeda Wrestling's Smack Talk, the former manager stated that Ford was not as popular as he used to be among WWE fans. Mantell added that the company might have unintentionally worn Ford down by doing nothing substantial with him for so long.

"What they have done, they've almost held back the turn of Montez Ford so long, I think they kinda hurt him unintentionally. I think instead of, you know pulling the trigger on him and letting him go, they kept saying 'eh, I don't know,' which is actually worse than not doing anything. Because you wear the people down just by the time you spend doing nothing with 'em. I don't think they're anywhere near as heated up as he were, say a year ago." [14:13 onwards]

The Street Profits were involved in a faction with Bobby Lashley called The Pride last year, but the group never became popular. Bobby Lashley has since left the company and is now a part of The Hurt Syndicate in All Elite Wrestling.
