WWE should book a program between John Cena and top champion, Chris Van Vliet explains why

Several prominent WWE names have been suggested as potential opponents for John Cena during his 2025 Farewell Tour. Meanwhile, Chris Van Vliet recently discussed why the company should book a feud between Cena and the Undisputed WWE Champion, Cody Rhodes.

At this year's Money in the Bank, The Cenation Leader announced that he will retire from wrestling in 2025. He will embark on a Farewell Tour from January to December.

Speaking on his AskCVV edition of the INSIGHT podcast, Chris Van Vliet suggested that WWE should book a match between The American Nightmare and The Franchise Player during the latter's 2025 Farewell Tour. He believes this encounter would symbolize a passing of the torch from John Cena, a former top babyface, to Cody Rhodes, the current top babyface in the company.

"John Cena was the biggest babyface in the company for a long long time. Cody Rhodes is now the biggest babyface in the company. So it feels like there could be a real passing of the torch moment here that involves a match," Vliet said. "But it just feels to me, like, if they had a program, even if it's a short program leading up to a match, that could really cement what Cody Rhodes is doing in this current that we have," he added [From 08:34 to 09:16]

Chris Van Vliet on who should be John Cena's first WWE opponent on his Farewell Tour

Randy Orton is the top choice among fans and critics to face the 16-time World Champion in his final WWE match. However, Van Vliet recently shared his opinion on who would be Cena's first opponent during his retirement tour in 2025.

During the same edition of the INSIGHT podcast, Chris Van Vliet predicted that Seth Rollins could be the first superstar to collide with John Cena in a one-on-one match.

"It feels like a great first opponent for him, and I'm not talking storyline here, or just throw him in the ring with this person, and you know it's gonna be great. Seth Rollins. I think John Cena is gonna have a match with Seth Rollins at some point in time in 2025. I could see that being his first match," he said.

Fans will have to wait and see if The Cenation Leader will make an appearance on the debut episode of RAW on Netflix on January 6, 2025.
