WWE currently houses one of the biggest and the most competent talent pools of fighters in the global pro wrestling scene. While this means more entertainment for the audience, it means fewer odds of victory for every wrestler. Despite this, a WWE champion recently extended his two-month-long winning streak since losing his last match to the Mad Dragon Ilja Dragunov back in April.
Tony D’Angelo is enjoying a highly impressive run on WWE NXT. The Don has become unstoppable in the last two months, especially after winning the NXT Heritage Cup Championship. This week, he stepped into the ring to fight his weekly title defense and claimed a strong victory against his challenger, Lexis King.
The match saw a highly confident King disrespecting and taunting Tony D’Angelo throughout the match in an attempt to gain psychological control of the match. However, Lexis was also at a psychological disadvantage since the guest DJ for the match, Eddy Thorpe, kept getting on his nerves.
Lexis King did a fine job of outlasting the clock in a round while being held in a vicious submission hold and securing a pinfall. However, Tony D’Angelo secured two pinfalls to retain his WWE NXT Heritage Cup Championship. With this, even a consistent match-winner like King has been proven ineffective against The Don. It would be interesting to see how much longer he continues his current title run.
