WWE Survivor Series: WarGames had its fair share of twists and turns, but LA Knight's defeat came as a surprise to many. However, wrestling veteran Dutch Mantell believes that there was no other option.

LA Knight had been targeted by the returning Shinsuke Nakamura in the weeks leading up to Survivor Series: WarGames. While Knight had the fans backing him as usual, Shinsuke seemed to have a singular focus when it came to taking the United States Title from the reigning champion. During the match, Shinsuke was able to prevail and dethrone LA Knight.

Speaking on Sportskeeda Wrestling's SmackTalk, former WWE on-screen manager Dutch Mantell was asked about his thoughts on the booking decision. He stated:

"That was the only thing they could have done with LA Knight and Nakamura. Because hey if he (LA Knight) would have won, what for LA Knight then? Now he has gotta have another opponent. And Nakamura, he lost, what's for him? Where he gotta go? They did it right, and now let's see where it leads." [From 04:26 onwards]

Another WWE veteran criticized the booking of this match

Before Survivor Series: WarGames, Vince Russo had made his criticism known about the match being booked between LA Knight and Shinsuke Nakamura.

Speaking on an episode of Writing with Russo, the former Head Writer of the company had stated that it was unlikely that both the stars would come out looking good after the match. He explained:

"Bro, did you see who attacked LA Knight after his match on SmackDown? Nakamura. I don't get these guys. I don't understand this booking." He added, "I don't know. Their booking is just... It's just that there's no plan. IT's the wrestling industry as a whole. There's just no plans anymore."
