WWE destroyed Cody Rhodes' credibility with "weak" SmackDown segment (Exclusive)

Former WWE head writer Vince Russo spoke about Cody Rhodes on SmackDown. The star was on the blue brand this past week and granted a championship shot to Kevin Owens.

This past week on SmackDown, the American Nightmare offered a title shot to Kevin Owens. However, KO replied that he hadn't earned the opportunity and tried to pass it up. Cody was adamant and approached Nick Aldis to make the match official. Aldis told them that Roman was possibly getting the title shot, which enraged Owens and he accepted the match.

This week on Sportskeeda Wrestling's Legion of RAW, Russo felt the segment destroyed Cody Rhodes' credibility. He pointed out that WWE was already struggling to find opponents for the champ to the point where he was handing out championship matches. And finally, when he offered a shot to Kevin Owens, the star declined claiming he was not worthy. The veteran writer claimed this made Rhodes look bad.

"I don't know if you watched SmackDown. That was the most pathetic thing I've ever seen. A wrestler didn't want a title shot because he wasn't worthy and he didn't deserve it." Russo continued, "I haven't seen something that weak in I don't know how long, man. It's bad enough the guy's got no opponents. So now he's got to literally give out matches because he's got no opponents. And then, when he gives a match out, the guy doesn't want to take it because he's not worthy. What is this?" [6:55 onwards]

The match is now official and Cody Rhodes will face Kevin Owens at Bash in Berlin for the Undisputed WWE Championship.

It will be interesting to see how Cody Rhodes fares against a fully motivated Prize Fighter like Owens.
