Famed Japanese star Giulia made her WWE in-ring debut against Chelsea Green on the latest edition of NXT. While her in-ring work was praised by many, a WWE veteran believes she lacks a major aspect to get over.
Hall of Famer Bully Ray knows a lot about the wrestling world and can see when a star has all the tools to make it big. He recently broke down Giulia’s massive in-ring debut on NXT.
The Beautiful Madness faced main roster star Chelsea Green in her first match on the developmental brand. She had little trouble disposing the former WWE Women’s Tag Team Champion for the win.
Speaking on Busted Open Radio, Bully Ray noted that nearly everything about Giulia’s presentation during her debut match was good. However, he noted that she lacked facial expressions to become a top star in America.
"I'm not so much a fan of the expressionless face. I'd loved to see some more expression from her," he said. "It almost looks like she took a Benadryl before she went out there. It's a very flat look on her face at times. Like the entrance, like the presentation, like the look, like the mish-mash of the gear ... She had like, fur last night and tassels and a lot of different things that came together. In the ring, I thought it was a good match for her against Chelsea. She's going to have to learn how to work the American, WWE style." [H/T Wrestling Inc.]
Giulia was praised heavily for her work in Japan, where the wrestling style differs from that of America. Fans could see her change a few things about her presentation and character and come across as a bigger threat.
Giulia is set for a major title match on WWE NXT
Giulia is set to challenge NXT Women’s Champion Roxanne Perez for her title on the CW Network premiere of the show. Shawn Michaels is giving her a top title match early in her career, and she could win it to surprise many in the wrestling industry.
It’s not surprising to see big stars from other promotions get top opportunities soon after signing with the company. However, Perez has been heavily protected by WWE and has had a good title reign as a heel.
A title change could seemingly mean the creative team is ready to move The Prodigy to the main roster. However, an early title win for the newcomer sounds somewhat questionable.
