WWE Hall of Famer Bully Ray has commented on the Intercontinental Championship's loss of prestige since Gunther lost it. He admitted that he doesn't even remember who the current holder is.
The Ring General held the gold for 666 days, which is a record. He unexpectedly lost it to Sami Zayn at WrestleMania XL, who dropped it to Bron Breakker at SummerSlam. The title then went to Jey Uso, only for it to return to Breakker a few weeks later, who recaptured it on an episode of RAW after interference by The Bloodline.
Speaking on Busted Open Radio, Bully Ray pointed out that he and his co-hosts couldn't remember who the current Intercontinental Champion was at the top of their head, which he described to be a problem.
"I don't even remember who the IC Champion is right now... Let's be quite honest, the only reason any of us knew the answer was because producer Paul just typed it in and showed it to us. There was a definitive two to three second delay in the both of you because we have forgotten about a certain championship. You should never forget about a certain championship, especially one like the IC Championship, in which GUNTHER just did a tremendous job in making. And now, all of a sudden, I'm sitting here, and I'm going, wait, who's the IC champion again? That should never happen," said Bully Ray. [H/T Wrestling INC]

WWE Hall of Famer Bully Ray thinks there are too many championships in wrestling
WWE has two world champions for the men and two for the women, divided across two main brands. Two titles were recently introduced, but they can only be defended once a year at Crown Jewel in Saudi Arabia.
On the same podcast, Bully Ray added that his inability to name the current Intercontinental Champion validates the fact that there are too many belts in wrestling.
"This goes back to the too many championships [discussion]," Ray continued. "This goes back to who am I supposed to look at as 1A [and 1B]? Some people will like it, some people won't. I just think that we're watered down with championships across the board in pro wrestling." [H/T Wrestling INC]
Bully Ray is set to make his WWE in-ring return on NXT when he teams up with Trick Williams to take on Ethan Page and Ridge Holland in a tag team match.
