The runtime of WWE's weekly shows has been a big talking point of late. Former WWE writer Vince Russo recently offered his honest opinion on how the company is oversaturating its product with too much content.

On the first episode of Backstage Pass, WrestleVotes reported that SmackDown will move from two to three hours in 2025. SmackDown currently airs on the USA Network alongside RAW, which will move to Netflix in January.

Russo said on Sportskeeda Wrestling's Writing With Russo that fans will tune out if WWE increases the length of its weekly shows:

"Maybe they don't care, bro, but I don't know how they don't understand that oversaturation is going to hurt the product eventually. People are gonna get sick of it, bro, and they're gonna get tired of it. And, like I said, bro, Endeavor [WWE's owners] has a lot of money that they have to make up, I totally get that, but you are going to absolutely kill this product, bro." [12:21 – 12:47]

Vince Russo thinks WWE is not alone in settling for "mediocrity"

From October 7, RAW will move from three to two hours on the USA Network before switching to Netflix. It is unknown whether the show will revert to three hours when it premieres on the streaming service.

Vince Russo wrote for RAW when the show ran for two hours in the late 1990s. He told host Dr. Chris Featherstone that entertainment standards since those days have decreased both inside and outside the wrestling business:

"Across the board, we have now settled for a sea of mediocrity. Across the board. Look at some of the big musicians today. Like, are you kidding me? I see some of these people, as a guy that was a Beatles fan, I look at today people making money in music and I'm like, 'Are you kidding me?' And it's mediocre at best, but that's what we've settled for more and more and more, bro." [14:08 – 14:41]

Russo also hit out at WWE's "greedy" owners for prioritizing revenue over fan enjoyment.
