Jade Cargill has emerged as one of the hottest prospects in WWE's women's division over the last few months. In an exclusive interview, WWE Hall of Famer Mark Henry revealed the feedback he gave the SmackDown star earlier in her career.
Cargill began wrestling training in 2018 after Henry advised her to visit veteran Ohio Valley Wrestling (OVW) coach Rip Rogers. The 32-year-old wrestled for AEW between 2020 and 2023 before joining WWE.
Speaking to Sportskeeda Wrestling Senior Editor Bill Apter, Henry recalled how he questioned Cargill after she performed high-risk moves during training:
"She would send me videos of her wrestling at practice with the boys, and I said, 'Why are you doing sunset flips and cross-bodies off the top? You only been there two weeks.' And she said, 'It looked fun. I wanted to give it a try.' I said, 'F***ing run the ropes and grab a headlock and work on takeovers and reversals, and so you don't get hurt. You gonna do something to get hurt.' She ain't been hurt yet." [4:22 – 4:53]

How Mark Henry met Jade Cargill
Several wrestlers have credited Mark Henry with helping them get started in the business, including Bianca Belair and Braun Strowman.
In Jade Cargill's case, Henry said he was introduced to the former basketball player through a mutual friend:
"There's a girl in Indianapolis named Kelsey Taylor that she was friends with, and Kelsey told her, 'Hey, Mark is a class dude. If you wanna wrestle, you should call him.' And she [Kelsey] called me first and then she said, 'This girl wants to talk to you.' And I'm like, 'Listen, man, you know I'm married. I ain't talking to no girls.' And she said, 'Not like that, fool. Like, wanna wrestle.' And I said, 'Okay, well, send me a picture and tell her to call me.'" [3:03 – 3:42]
In the same interview, Henry spoke about his initial impression of Cargill after seeing a picture of her for the first time.
