Cody Rhodes is one of the top faces of WWE in this new era. The current Undisputed WWE Champion has promised to not be a part-time superstar, and to be a fighting champion. Now a longtime fan-favorite wrestler has expressed interest in a big first-time-ever match. This was WWE Hall of Famer Rob Van Dam.

The American Nightmare has wrestled several big names since returning to World Wrestling Entertainment in 2022, including Brock Lesnar, Seth Rollins, members of The Bloodline and The Judgment Day, AJ Styles, and even Logan Paul, among others. Before leaving the company the first time in 2016, The Grandson of a Plumber had worked with many stars and even a few WWE Hall of Famers, such as Kane, Mark Henry, Batista, The New Age Outlaws, and Rey Mysterio. One Hall of Famer that Rhodes teamed with but never locked up against so far is Rob Van Dam.

Speaking on his 1 Of A Kind podcast, RVD expressed interest in potentially challenging Rhodes for the WWE Championship. He was asked if he'd be up for a title shot as Cody is having quite the babyface run.

"Absolutely. Absolutely, I would love to. I like Cody. I respect him, and I would definitely, definitely be up for that. Absolutely," Rob Van Dam said. [From 1:17:28 to 1:17:39]

Besides the 2009 Royal Rumble, Rhodes and RVD have shared the ring on four occasions. The 2014 WrestleMania Revenge tour featured a big eight-man tag team match at four of the live events. Big E and Goldust teamed with Cody and RVD to defeat The Miz, Tyson Kidd, Justin Gabriel, and Titus O'Neil at the first show. For the next three, The Miz replaced Big E on the winning team, while Jack Swagger replaced Miz on the heel side.

Cody Rhodes set for WWE Money In the Bank match

Cody Rhodes has been at war with The Bloodline for a few weeks now. The battle is set to continue with a big six-man match next month.

Last week's SmackDown saw Randy Orton and Kevin Owens get involved once again, saving Cody from a beating from Solo Sikoa, Tama Tonga, and Tonga Loa. However, Jacob Fatu then debuted and helped his family members clean house.

Officials have since announced that Rhodes, Orton, and Owens will face The Bloodline in six-man action at Money in the Bank. It wasn't clear if Fatu will work the match, and if he does, will it be in place of Tonga or Loa.
